Last Week -

Swimming News:

From Coach Pickford “Week in Review”

Here is your team update for the week ending 3/24/2017:

Week in Review

Meet versus MVC

We went to Monte Vista Christian on Monday in the rain. And despite the chilly conditions and the less that optimal pool configuration, we did very well. Unfortunately, the Varsity girls lost 52-39. But the JV girls came away with a 43-36 victory.

Pushed by what was our toughest competitor yet this season, we lodged many season bests despite being tired and cold. Of specific note was the Varsity 200 Free relay comprised of Ashley, Ellie, KK and Rachel, which dropped their season best time by 3 seconds and are now within eye shot of achieving the CCS standard. Their time of 1:50.31 is just 3.32 seconds from the goal of 1:46.99.

KK was also a double event winner, taking both the 100 Free and the 100 Back. Rachel bested the field in the 200 IM.

On the JV side, Maya continues to own the 50 Free, winning yet again and then coming back later in the meet and taking the 100 Free. Event winners also include Fabienne (100 Breast) and Nancy (100 Back).

Swim-a-thon

On Friday, we had 19 hearty troopers brave the ugly weather and swim till they dropped. Ashley and Mariana topped the most laps swum at 260-ish (that's almost 4 miles!!) and Mariana topped the committed donations list. Each will get cool t-shirts for their efforts.

But the entire team deserve a congrats - if we are able to collect all the funds committed by sponsors, it will be a great total donation. When the dollars are counted, we will get you know the total. Thanks to all!!

Week in Advance

Swim meet on Friday at GHS versus Watsonville. Meet starts at 3:30 PM. I am requesting release from class at 2:30 PM. Please get to the pool, help set up and get your warm-up going on time.

NEW SAT FORMAT!

If a student takes the current SAT before March 2016 and then takes the redesigned SAT at a later date, the NCAA Eligibility Center will not combine section scores from the current and redesigned SAT when determining a student's initial eligibility. The NCAA Eligibility Center will only combine section scores from the same version of the test. Because the redesigned SAT varies in design and measures different academic concepts than the current SAT, a numerical score on the current test may not be equivalent to the same numerical score on the redesigned test. Students should use recipient code 9999 when sending scores to the NCAA Eligibility Center.

Additional information on changes to the SAT can be found here.

Considering Playing a Sport in College?

Athletes,

Please make sure you are fully aware of all of the rules and regulations regarding participation in Division I or II athletics. You need to be certified by the NCAA Eligibility Center. Qualifications have changed!!!

You are responsible for achieving and protecting your eligibility status!
