CONGRATULATION WRESTLERS!!!
10th Consecutive CCS Championship!!!! 5th Place at CIF State Meet!!!
Gilroy HS won its tenth consecutive CCS title (13 overall in school history) Saturday, February 25, 2012 by 100+ points over rivals St. Francis, Palma, Serra, Bellarmine and 80 other schools who competed. The scary thing for CCS teams is that the GHS squad will return 11 of 13 wrestlers next year! Six wrestlers qualified for the state meet: Jesse Vasquez, Victor Olmos, Paul Fox, Niko Villareal, Willie Fox, and Jose Lara. Three other wrestlers placed in the top 6 as alternates: Julian Carbajal, Lupe Jimenez, and Aaron Gonzalez.
Congratulations to the GHS wrestling team. They competed at the California State Championships March 2-3 in Bakersfield. Over 600 teams compete in the sport with one division, 268 teams qualified 448 wrestlers for the event. Gilroy finished in 5th place with 93 points, 2 state champions and one 2nd place. 2 time CCS champion Sophomore Paul Fox finished 2nd at 126 pounds to claim his second state medal in 2 years. Big Brother and senior Willie Fox finished the season with 52 wins to claim the 147 pound state title after winning CCS the week before. Willie will attend the Naval Academy or Stanford next season. Nikko Villareal claimed the 132 pound state title beating senior Alex Cisneros from Selma HS who was going for his 4th state title and had never lost to a California wrestler in 4 years. Nikko, scored a five point throw in the last 11 seconds of the match to become the first sophomore in GHS’s history to win a state title. Nikko and Willie became the 6th and 7th wrestlers in GHS history to win individual titles. Great job wrestlers.

Costa, a first year player who transferred to USD from Gavilan College, returned a first quarter interception 88 yards for a touchdown that gave USD a 14-0 lead that eventually ended up being the game winning points.
